I set off on an early morning bike ride this morning. I was late leaving at around 5:45 am but managed to finish one of my stronger rides.
As I headed up Lee Hill Drive out of Boulder toward Jamestown, I stopped to photograph some flowers. It was cloudy so it was still quite dark. The flash came on and gave me a few good shots of the flowers. I didn’t notice the bugs on the yellow flowers until I looked at the pictures.

On one of my bicycle rides up in the mountains above Boulder this past week I photographed the shadow of the mountain against the rising sun. There is a great contrast that comes out in the photo. I remember thinking how it represents the co-existence of the shadow and the light within us all. A happy and productive life is all about finding balance between the two.
The sun raised up above the mountain ridge a short time after I took the photo. It wasn’t too long after that before I was on the dirt road. And that’s when I noticed this guy following me. He seemed to come and go but I finally managed to get a photo of him. I think he followed me the rest of the day. I’m going to keep my eye out for him the next time I ride up there. He seemed like an interesting character.

I love how Mother Nature peeps out at the world in the most unsuspecting places. This dandelion was growing off alone in a small patch of grass along beside a rocky trail in the foothills high above Boulder. The sun was diffused through the clouds which allowed the depth of the inner petals to be revealed in the contrast.
A dandelion is only around for a few days before it flowers and blows in the wind. So too are we. We come into the world for a short while in the scope of time, we flower and eventually we too are dust in the wind—until the next flower.

Last Monday, I posted some photos of tulips growing in Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall. Those photos were mostly close-ups of the inside of single tulips. In today’s post, the photos show groups of tulips growing together.
The tulips grow up and down the north and south side of the pedestrian mall. The plantings on each side are offset in time so at any given time one side is in full bloom. The last photo shows one of the tulip beds on the south side that is soon to bloom.

Colorado Mountain Wonderland: Simultaneous Moonset And Sunrise
I took these two photographs early this morning. The first one shows the beginning of the Moon setting behind southern portion the Flatiron Range in Boulder County. The second image shows the morning sun just as it’s hitting Long’s Peak. There is about a 90 degree angle between the two views.
Together, these two photographs capture the polarities of change from night to day as the moon sets and the sun rises. These images are a moment in time reflecting the duality of nature and in life.

Boulder Colorado Into The Wind: The Ultimate Kite Store
Here in Boulder Colorado along the Front Range the wind is often a force to be reckoned with. Most of the time the air is fairly calm but occasionally wind gusts can reach up to 50mph or more.
Early spring and late fall seem to be the time when it picks up the most as high and low pressure systems are shifting over the Rockies causing wind storms along the Front Range that can go on for hours at a time.
With this in mind, it’s easy to understand why Into The Wind, one of the greatest kite stores in the world, was born here in Boulder 29 years ago. Founded by architects George Emmons and Jim Glass, the store has produced countless kite designs over the years and become a landmark for many who live here.
Into The Wind has one of the largest kite selections anywhere including a wide variety of traditional kites and stunt kites in addition to all types of kite making, repair and accessory items. Their product line has expanded over the years to include a large selection of fun toys such as flying discs, games, footbags, and more. Their line of wind art products includes wind chimes, flags, banners, windsocks, and hanging spinners.
Into The Wind’s retail outlet is easily the most fun store on Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. You can go there almost any time of day on any given day of the week and see a wide range of customers from young children to adults all having fun. The store has something for everyone.
The next time you find yourself near downtown Boulder, consider stopping by Into The Wind. The store is located at 1408 Pearl Street right on the mall. You can also visit their website at IntoTheWind.com to view and order many of their products.
