Red Rocks: Boulder Colorado’s Garden of the Gods

Red Rocks: Boulder Colorado’s Garden of the Gods

On the west side of Boulder at the end of Pearl Street is the trail head to Red Rocks, Boulder’s Garden of the Gods. A short hike up a steep hill leads to a huge out-crop of red rocks comprised of sandstone.

The views are incredible looking out over the city of Boulder and the plains below. With this posting I am going to show the photographs of the rocks looking up. In another post I’ll show the photographs looking down over Boulder. Enjoy!

Boulder Colorado Winter Hiking at it's Best: The Ceran Vrain Trail

Boulder Colorado Winter Hiking At Its Best: The Ceran Vrain Trail

Boulder County HikingTweet thisOne of the nice things about living in Boulder is the many hiking trails nearby. There are lots to choose from that are only a few short minutes from downtown.

On Sunday, my wife Hannele and I went for an afternoon hike on the Ceran Vrain Trail. A few miles up in the foothills north of Boulder near Jamestown. The Ceran Vrain Trail is named after a fur trader who established several trading posts along the creek in the late 1800’s.

road signTo get there you head north out of Boulder on Hwy 36 to Left Hand Canyon Drive and follow that to Olde Stage Road. You follow the winding Olde Stage Road through Jamestown and continue about 3-4 miles until you come to the trail head. You’ll know when you’re just about there because the paved road ends and becomes a dirt road. The trail head is about 18 miles from downtown Boulder.

Trailhead signThere was still snow on the ground and the trail was mostly snow and ice. At the beginning of the trail is a long wooden bridge crossing over the Saint Vrain Creek. The creek was frozen over but we could hear the water moving underneath the ice. It was a very interesting sound and quite refreshing.

Hannele on FootbridgeThe trail follows a two mile stretch along the creek. The forest is made up of spruce, fir, aspen and lodgepole pine trees.

We hiked to one of Hannele’s favorite areas she calls the prayer room. It’s a beautiful stand of pine trees spaced apart about 8-10 feet or so. There’s a photograph below but I was having difficulty focusing the camera. Prayer roomHannele says there are nature spirits all around the area. She is from Finland and she said the prayer room reminds her of the forest there.

Trees on the TrailWe hiked for a while and even though it was cold we both felt very peaceful and quite refreshed.

The air was crisp and full of life. We sat for a little quiet time and soaked it all in before beginning our journey back to Boulder. It was a spontaneous hike and the whole trip only took us a couple of hours. Boulder is such a great place to live. I hope you have a chance to check it out sometime.

If you or someone you know are planning to relocate to Boulder, give me a call or shoot me an email. I can get you market and community information and I can help you buy or sell a home in Denver metro or Boulder county areas. Although I specialize in energy-efficient green homes, I can help you find any type of home that suits your needs.

Here are a couple of extra photos I thought you may enjoy.
