Boulder Colorado Rock Art
I seem to be stumbling on a lot of rock art here in Boulder lately. In the photos below is a modern version of a cave painting without the cave. On a hike up Pinebrook trail on the northwest side of town I came on this painting on the wall of a huge shear of rock.
If you look carefully in the first photo you'll see the painting of a bird on the lower left. The second is a close-up of the bird.
It’s interesting to note that nature did a painting of her own on the rock. Notice the black and gray streaks. I suspect water dripping over time caused some minerals to wash away leaving higher concentrations of other behind. It’s a sharp contrast to the bird but both seem to be right at home along the narrow trail high above Boulder.

John ~ Boulder has so much nature to offer. I love visiting there. Do you think we will still get snow tomorrow?!
Beautiful work of art.
Isn't nature awesome? Is that an eagle in the second drawing John?
Hi Dawn...we're expecting 4-8 inches of snow here in Boulder by tomorrow afternoon.
Great looking photos John! I suspect that second photo is a demonstration of either a recent biker or a patriot - perhaps both:-)
Well these certainly give new meaning to you being in "Boulder" Colorado. I never considered how literal it was before =) And I love the natural striation designs in the rock. And do you have any idea how old the bird painting is? Is it something recent, or can it be contributed to Indians?
Rock art... that's a new one on me! I took a coffee art class the other night :)
