Lily Pads Reaching for the Sun

Last week I hiked to Cub Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a five mile hike round-trip from the train entrance.  The lake was set among a very peaceful setting surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges. The entrance to the park is in Larimer County just a short drive from Boulder.

The lily pads were just beginning to emerge. You could see them rising up from under the water stretching to reach the sun. I was captivated by the simplicity of their beauty. Soon, the lake will be half full of them.

What? No frogs or turtles on the lily pads? Now that's just wrong =P   Very cool pictures. Makes me miss my childhood when we lived on the river.
