Fire

Fire

What do you see in the pictures below? Fire of course but try to look beyond the obvious. Do you see death and destruction or do you see a hot meal? Do you see fury and chaos or do you see a warm house. Do you see despair or do you see hope?

Rapid oxidation of the wood in the process of combustion was probably not your first answer although that’s exactly what the camp fire is in the photographs. The point is that things are often more about what they represent than what they are by strict definition.

Fire played a significant role in the evolution of our species. Evidence of fire among early humans dates back nearly 2 million years and became more controlled around 400,000 years ago. Fire continues to play a role in our daily lives although we may go weeks, days, months or even years without seeing a flame.

The power and the destructive ability of fire co-exist in every moment any flame burns. Such are the days of our lives. The fire of good and bad, right and wrong, for better or for worse co-exists within us all moment-to-moment.

I see a campfire.

Am I supposed to be seeing something else?

Hummm . . . That the photographer needs to upgrade their equipment because the camera's resolution is low, causing minor pixelation to occur when uploaded? . . . . They might also want to pick up CS3. ;) Seriously though, thanks for posting this, it's pretty cool!

John, I have always thought of fire as more of a two edged sword, contained in campfire or stove in provides comfort and warmth, uncontained, it is a very destructive force.  Great photos!

I can see a contained campfire! Good fire pictures! I can remember the Hayman Fire, was started innocently and ended up to be the biggest fire in Colorado history! On June 8, 2002, from a campfire circle southwest of Denver and north of Lake George; the Hayman Fire was born and would quickly become the largest recorded wildfire in the State's history. In three weeks the Hayman Fire burned over 137,000 acres and destroyed more then 600 structures!

 Thanks for sharing,

Adam
