Yellow Fellow

Yellow Fellow

Yellow is one of my favorite colors…especially in nature. It represents so many things including light, warmth, clarity, etc. Yellow flowers are among my favorite. The flower below was photographed in the flower garden at Columbine Unity Church.

The human eye acts like a band-pass filter in the visual spectrum and yellow is detected stronger than any other color, even red. That is why some fire engines are painted yellow. That fact wasn’t known, however, until well after the social and cultural trend of red fire trucks was firmly in place.

John - stunning .... really?  yellow out shines red?  Now that little piece of information would have been useful during our logo research phase!  Thanks for sharing, and we won't tell the red firetruck federation!

Yellow flowers are my absolute favorite. You should see it here when the mustard is in full bloom. These are beautiful photos!

It is very pleasant to the eye.  I love day lilys, even though they only bloom for 1 day then the bloom fades they are magnificant and so many bloom it looks like they are always blooming.  I gather seeds from the heads every year, put in moist paper towels in a sandwich bag for 6 weeks in my fridge, then plant in small pots.  I have lots of day lilys on my property, they bring me much pleasure.  Your pictures are magnificant, thanks for sharing.

Jack...Yes indeed. It was a surprise to me too when I learned about it. It's also why you see more yellow vest on road workers and not red ones.

Cynthia...Thanks for your comment...Yellow and purple are my favorites.

Mary...Thanks for naming the flowers. As much as I love flowers I an terrible at keeping up with the correct names.

Myrl...Isn't it nice when colors or images associate with fond memories. Thanks for stopping by.

Wanda...Thank you...beauty like this is meant to be shared.

Barbara Jo...Thanks again...just doing what I love to do.

Hi John, A very interesting topic about Yellow in the visual spectrum. A good yellow filter for photographers is particularly of value  when photographing horizons with a lot of sun glare that washes out the blue of the sky. The yellow filter restores much of the normal blue of the sky.

I have many of the lemon yellow variety of Day Lillies and I love the bright lemon color. I use them in conjunction with soft pinks , blues , purples and reds and there presence tends to intensify the colors of the surrounding colors.
