Rocky Mountain Flowers

Rocky Mountain Flowers

I was up for a drive in the mountains a few days ago and stopped to photograph some mountain flowers. I’m not sure of the elevation but I believe it was just over 6,000 feet. I had never recognized any of the three flowers shown here before.

There is something mysterious about not knowing what kind of flowers they are. It feels like total surrender to their beauty. Or then again, maybe I am just making excuses for my ignorance. Either way, they are quite beautiful nonetheless. The mystery of the unknown prevails.

Neat looking flowers, John!  The flowers in your third and 4th photos, I've only seen one other time in my life.  And that was a historic rock garden over at William Land Park, here in Sacramento.

John those flowers are familiar however I too have no idea as to what they are called.  You sure have a great eye for a terrific photography subject.

I love the buds that haven't bloomed yet. They look so delicate. They're just as beautiful as the flowers.

John - The top flower is called Monarda or Bee Balm.  The bottom flower is Geranium, not the common geranium that everybody grows in a pot.  That one is botanically named Pelargonium.  I have seen the middle flower before but the name escaped me.  It looks like a mountain laurel but I'm sure it is not.  They are beautiful flowers.  Thanks for sharing.
