Fury Friends
In encountered these fury friends along the road during my bike ride yesterday in the foothills above Boulder. It is interesting how wildlife in many locations have become accustomed to us humans lingering nearby.
The deer just stood there and looked at me. They didn’t seem too bothered that I was so close to them. The little squirrel dashed around a little but then settled in and seemed to be just waiting for me to pass on by.
I guess the wildlife is not so wild anymore.

Hanging out by the side of the road is not the best place for deer :-)
Back quite a few years ago I visited my grandfather in Casper Wyoming. He lived just north of Casper Mountain and the winters often got quite bad. Many of the deer died during these difficult winters. They soon learned the homes on Casper Mountain had FOOD! Their appearances became more and more regular and many of the locals would put out grain and hay for them. (They knew they shouldn't, but couldn't help it!) We took a trip up the mountain with carrots and apples and I would stand very still and they would eat right out of my hand. I had at one point a very large buck come up and eat right from my palm. Everyone was freaking out, telling me to get out of there, he could really do damage to me. I don't know what it was, but I saw it in his eyes he was not going to hurt me. He and I stood there for quite a long time, I slowly would grab my stash of food and present it to him and he would take it right from me. We both were very cautious. Once he was done, he turned and walked on. It was one of the most phenomenal experiences in my life. I do have a picture of myself feeding this marvelous creature, but a picture can not begin to explain how amazing this experience was!
John, great photos! They do get pretty tame after awhile!
Great pictures John...What a great story by Stephanie up above...
Have a great day John!
As we continue to overpopulate the Earth and move into rural areas, the wildlife has no choice but to get used to us.
I agree with Jim. The squirrel and deer were just waiting for you to vacate their space, John! hahahhahah Nice shots though!

Great pictures! The face in the one picture of the deer looks darker than the rest of him...interesting.
Great pictures sometimes we get a opportunity for a good one when we least expect it. Debra beat me to it but why does that one deer have such a darker face?
Beautiful!
