Boulder Fourmile Canyon Fire Update

Boulder Fourmile Canyon Fire Update

This afternoon I watched as the sky grew orange and the sun was masked by the dense smoke from the wildfire. Around 4:30 I drove to Settler's Park and was turned away. I then drove to Lost Gultch above Flagstaff where over 100 people had gathered.

It was a horrific scene. I have never seen anything quite like it. With my binoculars I witnessed 8-10 structures go up in flames. Eventually, the tankers flew in and began dropping fire retardant, but it hardly seemed to make a difference--the fire continued to grow for the 3 hours I was there on the rocks. Everyone there seemed captivated in disbelief at what we were witnessing. There are three homes burning in the 6th picture below.

There is a sobering feeling in Boulder this evening with ash still falling and the smell of smoke everywhere. My heart weeps for those who have suffered loss and for those who are displaced. A wake-up call to us all perhaps about what is really important in life. Hold your loved ones close and tell them how you feel.

Every picture tells a story. I was in Portland when the volcano erupted and the ash fell for weeks upon weeks; the sky looked much like that of the Boulder sky in your pics.

I pray for rain.......lots of it.

I have seen wild fires all my life and I find them truly frightening.

John ~ How sad it that and to be left completely homeless and all your stuff over the years be gone just like that.  Mother nature is cruel sometimes but it all happens for a reason.

John - it is amazing what a fire can do and how quickly it spreads!!! Be safe out there! Hopefully it is far from your home!
